Wilhelm Velten

Wilhelm Velten (1847 - 1929) was active/lived in Russian Federation, Germany.  Wilhelm Velten is known for Horse and buggy genre, hunting scene paintings.

Wilhelm Velten 1847 St.Petersburg - 1929 Munich

He began studying painting in the years 1867-1869 at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, and then - from 1870 - he was a student of Wilhelm von Diez at the Munich Academy. He settled permanently in Munich. In the nineties he became a member of the Munich Secesja association. Like his teacher Wilhelm Diez, the artist mainly painted genre motifs - hunting, horsemen and the camp life of soldiers - set in the realities of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Wilhelm Velten was born in Russia and studied at the Academy in St. Petersburg.  After completion of his studies, he moved to Munich and began to specialize in genre painting depicting wild horsemen and the Hussars' life - to great success, as his painting can now be found, among other places, at the Fine Arts Academy in Buffalo, at the Neue Pinakothek in Munich and the State Gallery in Prague.
